Alcorn State has extended a scholarship offer to one of the nation’s emerging backcourt prospects.
According to a post on his Instagram account, 2028 three-star guard Monta Ellis Jr. has received an offer from the Braves. The Texas native is coming off a productive sophomore campaign at Walnut Grove High School, where he averaged 14.5 points per game, establishing himself as one of the top players in the 2028 recruiting class.
The offer is particularly noteworthy given Ellis Jr.‘s family ties to the program. His father, former NBA standout Monta Ellis, was recently named the general manager of Alcorn State men’s basketball, adding another layer of intrigue to the recruitment.
While the elder Ellis built a stellar 12-year NBA career by averaging 17.8 points per game with the Golden State Warriors, Milwaukee Bucks, Dallas Mavericks, and Indiana Pacers, he’s now helping shape the future of the Braves’ basketball program. Landing his son would undoubtedly be one of the program’s biggest recruiting victories in recent years.
For Ellis Jr., the Alcorn State offer represents another milestone in what is expected to be a busy recruitment. As he continues to develop at Walnut Grove High School, more Division I programs are likely to join the race for the talented guard.
