Jordan Brand is expanding its 2026 lineup with one of the year’s most distinctive releases, the “Sumo.” Air Jordan 12 Inspired by Michael Jordan’s 1996 trip to Japan in which he toknthe court with a group of Sumo wrestlers, the premium colorway is scheduled to release exclusively in Japan on August 23, 2026.
The sneaker features a premium black leather upper paired with a richly textured purple mudguard that wraps around the lower portion of the shoe. Intricate laser-etched graphics decorate the quarter panels and heel, while metallic gold eyelets and a matching gold Jumpman badge on the tongue add a luxurious finish. Kanji-inspired details and special packaging further reinforce the Japanese theme behind the release.
