Brandon Ingram Has Partially Torn Achilles, Will Miss Start of Clippers Season

Brandon Ingram will not be ready for the start of the 2026-27 NBA season after being diagnosed with a partially torn Achilles tendon, the Los Angeles Clippers announced Monday.

The injury was discovered during a May procedure to address Ingram’s heel issue. Clippers interim president of basketball operations Trent Redden said the Achilles injury was addressed during that surgery, but Ingram remains unavailable to begin the season.

Ingram was acquired by the Clippers from the Toronto Raptors as part of the trade that sent Kawhi Leonard to Toronto.

The 29-year-old forward is coming off his second All-Star season. In 77 games for Toronto last season, Ingram averaged:

WHAT WE KNOW

  • Ingram has a partially torn Achilles tendon.
  • The injury was discovered during his May heel surgery.
  • He underwent surgery that addressed both the heel issue and partial Achilles tear.
  • He will miss the start of the 2026-27 season.
  • The Clippers plan to reevaluate him around the beginning of the regular season.
  • Ingram described his recovery as essentially week-to-week.

The Clippers open the regular season Oct. 21 against the Sacramento Kings, meaning Ingram will not be available for the beginning of the team’s new era following the Kawhi Leonard trade.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Ingram was expected to become one of the primary offensive pieces alongside Darius Garland following Leonard’s departure.

His absence leaves the Clippers without one of their biggest offseason additions as they prepare to open the season.

More updates on Ingram’s recovery are expected as the Clippers approach the regular season.
