Aaron Gordon challenges Zach LaVine to run it back

It is hard to believe that it has been a decade since Aaron Gordon and Zach LaVine turned the 2016 NBA Slam Dunk Contest into one for the ages as each continued wow the crowd with one jaw dropping dunk after another. the contest is still talked about to this very day, not only because of the incredible display of the two standout participants but because of the result, which is mired in controversy.

Many people who saw the contest, believe it should have ended in a tie or that Gordon should have won outright.

Gordon, in a recent post on X, said “2016 x 2026. Let’s do it again @ZachLaVine.”

Putting aside their current age and injury history( a serious hamstring injury for Gordon and multiple knee surgeries for LaVine, including a torn ACL in 2017), it is highly unlikely they could equal or exceed what they did in 2016. With that near certainty in mind, perhaps this should remain in the realm of a fun “what if” discussion rather than a viable possibility.
