The Alabama A&M women’s soccer team (2-6) is set to face Charleston Southern (2-3-2) for their final non-conference match of the season on Saturday at 1 p.m. (CT) on the CSU Soccer Field.
The Bulldogs are coming off a 2-2 home stretch where they tabbed victories over the University of West Georgia and South Carolina State University. In the first home match of the season, the Bulldogs took a 3-2 win over the UWG Wolves after two weather delays. Jasmine Perez-Acosta, Anita Frederick-Sigaran and Taylor McNeal all found the back of the net during the match. In the most recent 3-0 victory, Freshmen Alicia Cohen and Czaske Deane, along with sophomore Meghane St-Cyr were scorers for AAMU in the “Battle of the Bulldogs” against SCSU.
St-Cyr and Liliana Ribeiro both earned SWAC honors with their performance in the match against South Carolina State, with St-Cyr earning Defensive Player of the Week and Ribeiro being named Goalkeeper of the week, thanks to the first Bulldog shutout.
The Buccaneers are returning from a pair of road matches. CSU fell 5-0 to the College of Charleston. Elin Persson tallied the only Buc on-target shot. Charleston Southern played two goalkeepers in the match, who saved a combined four goals. Charleston Southern then traveled some 25 minutes southeast to take on The Citadel. The match would end in a scoreless tie, with the Bucs tallying 16 total shots, six of them on target. Goalkeeper Jenna Moran saved six balls in the match. Charleston Southern’s two victories also come from West Georgia and South Carolina State.
The Bulldogs and Buccaneers met just once before last season, with the Bucs claiming the match 2-0. Saturday’s match will serve as CSU’s senior day celebration.
