Representing one’s country in international play, especially the Olympics, is a great honor held in high regard by many athletes.
Unfortunately for Golden State Warriors forward Andrew Wiggins it is a privilege that he will not be Team Canada’s training camp opens later today and Wiggins will not be there, according to Anthony Slater of The Athletic, the team and the veteran forward mutually agreed that he would not participate in the Olympic Games due to prioritizing his health.
Slater adds that Wiggins was dealing with an ankle injury in the later part of the season and raises the possibility of the Warriors looking to deal the veteran forward is not out the question.
Since being acquired in a trade with the Timberwolves in 2020, Wiggins was a key component in the Warriors 2021-22 title run but has seen his production decrease every season in the Bay Area. This past season, the 29-year-old, who still has three years and 84,679,645 left on his current deal, appeared in 71 games and averaged a career-low 13.2 points per game to go along with 4.5 rebounds and 1.7 assists.
