There will be a new man walking the sidelines for Bowie State football in 2026. The University’s Athletic Department announced Friday morning that head coach Kyle Jackson’s contract would not be renewed.

“On behalf of Bulldog Athletics, I want to extend our sincere gratitude to Coach Jackson for the meaningful impact he has made on our football program, both as a player and as a dedicated coach over the last 11 years,” said Clyde Doughty, Jr., Bowie State’s vice president for intercollegiate athletics & recreation.

“We are grateful for his commitment to our student athletes and the lasting contributions he leaves behind, and we wish him well in his future endeavors. As we look ahead, we believe new leadership will best position the program for its next chapter of sustained excellence. We remain fully committed to investing in our football program and ensuring that our student athletes and the next head coach have the resources and support needed to seize this opportunity.”

After serving as interim head coach in the 2022 season and leading the Bulldogs to a 6-4 overall and 5-3 in the CIAA Jackson had the interim tag removed and was named the 10th head football coach in the program’s history in January 2023. Coach Jackson posted a 19-21 overall record and a 10-16 mark in the CIAA. Before ascending to the head coach’s role Jackson served as Bowie State’s linebacker coach and recruiting coordinator.

Bowie State has indicated that a nationwide search for Jackson’s replacement will commence immediately.
