Norfolk State and Howard tilt airing on ESPNU

Norfolk State’s Larry Vickers named to the Midseason Midseason Kathy Delaney-Smith Mid-Major Coach of the Year Watchlist

image via Matt Patterson Norfolk State women’s basketball coach Larry Vickers was named to the Midseason Midseason Kathy Delaney-Smith Mid-Major Coach of the Year Watchlist earlier this week.  Vickers is in his 10th season and has recorded a 163-98 record. Coach Vickers’ Lady Spartans ball club is currently 17-4, including wins over Missouri and Auburn. Norfolk State’s Diamond Johnson named World Exposure Report Player of the Week

The list of accolades for Norfolk State’s Diamond Johnson continues to grow longer. The graduate guard was named the World Exposure Report Player of the Week.  Johnson helped the Lady Spartans to a 2-0 week, recording 24 points, 8 steals, 7 rebounds, and 5 rebounds in their 77-69 win over Morgan State. In Norfolk State’s 124-51 obliteration of Virginia-Lynchburg Johnson scored 16 points, 6 rebounds, assists, and 3 steals in just 26 minutes, her shortest workday on the hardwood this season.  Johnson leads the MEAC in scoring, averaging 18.6 points…

Norfolk State guard Da’Brya Clark was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola. Howard’s guard Saniyah King was named Rookie of the Week, while North Carolina Central’s forward Jada Tiggett earned Defensive Player of the Week honors, respectively.  Clark (G, 5-7, So., Baltimore, Md.) led the Spartans to a 2-0 record, averaging 18.5 points, 4.5 assists, 3.0 rebounds, and 5.5 steals per game. Coppin State’s Laila Lawrence named to Becky Hammon Award Midseason Watch List

title image via Coppin State Athletics Coppin State forward Laila Lawrence was named to the Becky Hammin Award Midseason Watch List earlier this week.  The senior out of Lewisville, TX is averaging 16.8 points, which is second in the MEAC, as well as a conference-best 9.3 rebounds, while also adding 2.8 assists, and 2.7 steals in 20 games this season. Diamond Johnson continues to get recognition as her on-court exploits this season have earned the Norfolk State graduate guard a spot 2025 Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of Year Midseason Watchlist.   The Watchlist comprises players from 15 teams and 10 conferences. Norfolk State graduate guard Diamond Johnson was named the BOXTOROW National HBCU Player of the Week.  Johnson helped lead the Lady Spartans to a 94-54 win over Delaware State in which she put in 28 points, grabbed 5 rebounds, and dished out 6 assists. In NSU’s 82-66 defeat of Coppin State, Johnson scored 15 points to go along with 3 rebounds and a pair of assists.
