Marauders  hit season-high 11 three pointers in 69-56 win over Spring Hill

WILBERFORCE, Ohio – The Central State Marauders ended a three-game losing streak with a 69-56 win over Spring Hill on Sunday.

With the win, CSU improves to 3-16 on the season with a 2-9 mark in SIAC play. SHC drops to 5-12 overall with a 1-7 conference record.

The Marauders jumped out to a 13-3 lead thanks to early three-pointers from Orion Monford, Josiah Wilson and Tom Johnson. SHC battled back to cut the CSU lead down to four before Randall Clarkson, Jr. caught fire from three-point range, knocking down his next four attempts to erupt the home crowd. Clarkson, Jr.’s hot shooting hand combined with a Michael Reeves dunk sparked a 14-4 CSU run, allowing the Marauders to take a 32-19 lead at halftime.

Two Oliver Martin baskets and another Monford three-pointer increased the CSU lead to 20 at the 18:11 mark of the second half. Justin Allison knocked down a shot from three-point range, spurring SHC’s 14-2 run to pull within eight, 41-33. Later in the quarter, Christian Brandt found his shooting touch from outside the arc, making his next two three-point attempts to bring SHC within five points, 52-47, with 7:37 to play. The Marauders responded with a 15-0 run to retake control, 67-47, with 3:06 remaining and cruised to the 13-point victory.

CSU finished the game with a season-high 11 makes from three-point range.

Johnson flirted with a triple-double, recording 16 points, eight assists, eight steals, and six rebounds. Monford added 15 points and five rebounds. Clarkson contributed 12 points and four assists. Michael Reeves finished with 10 points and eight rebounds.

Justin Allison led SHC with 16 points.

The Marauders will host Wilberforce University on Monday at 2 pm.







Notes


Tom Johnson’s eight steals on Sunday was the most any Marauder has recorded this season.

Randall Clarkson has recorded back-to-back games of scoring in double figures for the first time this season.

Monday’s rivalry game against Wilberforce features two HBCU programs separated by less than 0.2 miles.
