The Delaware State women’s volleyball team opened its three-match away stint in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) competition with a straight-set sweep over Maryland Eastern Shore on Thursday.
With offensive production coming from multiple Hornets, Sydney Lewis led the charge with 10 total points. Lewis tallied seven kills on 14 total attacks for an even .500 hitting percentage. As one of the top two-way players in the MEAC, she also recorded two solo blocks and was in on two assisted blocks.
Along with a game-high eight kills, Danielle Allen notched two assisted blocks giving her nine points on the night.
Karen Cordero and Alondra Maldonado chipped in with six kills each. Cordero found herself in on two assisted blocks and landed one service ace for a total of nine points in the win.
Setting duo Malgorzata Andersohn (14) and Alayna Lacy (13) combined for 27 of the Hornets’ 33 total assists. Andersohn recorded a pair of service aces while Lacy notched one herself.
Defensively, Kelsie Dawson tallied a game-high three solo blocks as well as one assisted block for a total of four in the win. Libero Jasmal Cruz dug Delaware State out of 14 UMES attack attempts while also landing a game-best four service aces. As a team, the Hornets held the Hawks to a .082 hitting percentage.~
