From Florida A&M Sports Information:
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. | Kyle Coleman was one of Florida A&M University’s student-athletes affected by COVID-19 as the senior right-handed pitcher saw his season end on March 12.
Coleman, who was one of seven graduating seniors this season, will now have the opportunity to pitch again in the Collegiate Summer Baseball Invitational (CSBI).
“I am excited about being able to play baseball again, especially against some of the best in the nation,” Coleman said. “Not only am I excited about being able to play baseball again, but I am excited about this opportunity, and I am just so thankful to play the game I love.”
Coleman appeared in and started in four games for the Rattlers this season. He posted a 1-1 record and fanned 20 batters to just two walks in 22.0 innings pitched. The St. Cloud, Fla. native was a big part of the 2019 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Baseball Tournament Championship team where he pitched two complete games, including the winner-take-all title game on just two days rest.
“We are thrilled to have Coleman represent the FAMU baseball program in this event,” FAMU assistant baseball coach Bryan Henry said. “He has earned the opportunity to compete against some of the best college players in the country and we know he will make the Rattler Nation proud. Fangs Up!”
Coleman will pitch for Team Unity and opens up CSBI play at 7 p.m. on Thursday against Team Liberty.
The CSBI is an invitation only, four-team regional formatted tournament that will feature rosters composed of players from elite universities all around the country, hand-picked by the CSBI coaching staffs. This event will begin with three days of practice and will be played in a multi-use sports complex and stadium that boasts beautiful artificial turf and hosts nearly 300 events each year. The tournament is located in Bryan/College Station, Texas with the stands empty.
ESPN2 will televise the opening day of the tournament as CSBI serves as the last chance for elite players to impress scouts prior to the upcoming MLB draft. The final two days of the tournament will be available via pay-per-view subscription on CSBI2020.com, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting No Kid Hungry. More than 70 Division I schools from across the country will be represent in the tournament.
