(Dec. 1, 2023) … Hampton University men’s basketball team continue their stretch of four home non-conference games against Virginia Univeristy of Lynchburg. The Pirates will be facing the Dragons for the first time in program history.
A Look at Your Pirates
Hampton in their last time out fell to UMBC in a close contest 80-76. Neither side would be able to build a double-digit lead. The Pirates once again had an off-shooting night from beyond the arc going 2-16. However, HU shot 45 percent from the field and only missed three free throws in the second half. With the Retrievers shooting 57 percent in the final 20 minutes, UMBC was able to escape with a victory.
With Kyrese Mullen’s game-high 18 points and 11 rebounds, the sophomore picked up his fourth double-double of the season. Currently, Mullen is one of six players in the country to have four or more double-doubles this season. He also leads the Coastal Athletic Association in rebounds per game averaging 8.7. Tristan Maxwell would have his third game this season with 10 or more points. The Huntersville, N.C. native, has not been in double-figures in only two contests. While the Pirates at times have struggled from beyond the arc, they are averaging 7.3 threes per contest.
