DURHAM, N.C. (December 9, 2025) — Guards Bryce Harris (Brentwood, N.Y.) and Cam Gillus(Falls Church, Va.) and center Danas Kazakevicius(Vilnius, Lithuania) each scored 19 points to help the Howard University men’s basketball team (6-5) hold off North Carolina A&T State (NCAT), 73-69, in a nonconference showdown at Cameroon Indoor Stadium.
The Bison, which led the entire game, jumped out to the early lead and used a 10-0 run to open a 17-point lead at the 4:42 mark of the first half before the Aggies were able to cut the deficit, 41-30, at intermission.
Kazakevicius, a freshman center who has struggled of late offensively, did most of his damage in the first 20 minutes, finishing with a career high on 9-of-13 from the floor, along with five rebounds.
The Bison shot 50-percent (16-of-32) from the floor before intermission.
Then, NCAT (4-4) began to chip away at the lead and cut it to one possession on several occasions, but each time Harris and Gillus had an answer.
Harris, a leading candidate for MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Player of the Year, added 10 rebounds for a double-double while also impact the game with two assists, two steals and three blocked shots.
Gillus, a junior transfer from Lehigh, had one of his better games, especially in the second half. He shot 5-of-10 from the field, including 2-of-4 from three-point land, and a season-best six assists. His clutch free throw shooting down the stretch proved to be huge.
NCAT was able to stay close as its bench outscored the Bison, 29-7, and held a 22-2 advantage in second chances. But Howard offset that with a 15-of-23 shooting performance from the free throw line in the second half and graciously accepting 19 points off Aggie turnovers.
NCAT was led by Trent Middleton Jr. (18 points & 6 rebounds), Lewis Walker (15 points) and Zamoku Weluche-Ume, who tallied 10 points and eight rebounds off the Aggies’ bench.
NEXT UP: NCAT hosts Maryland Eastern Shore Friday (Dec. 12) at 7 p.m. Howard takes on another CAA foe in Hampton Saturday (Dec. 13) in the Real HU Battle at Care First Arena in Southeast D.C. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
