The first official sports domino related to the coronavirus has fallen.
Tuesday the Ivy League announces the cancellation of both their men’s and women’s conference basketball tournaments. The tournaments were scheduled to commence Friday.
Ivy League executive director Robin Harris had this to say in a statement released by the league:
“We understand and share the disappointment with student-athletes, coaches and fans who will not be able to participate in these tournaments Regrettably, the information and recommendations presented to us from public health authorities and medical professionals have convinced us that this is the most prudent decision.”
The league announced that Yale will receive the conference’s automatic NCAA Tournament bid on the men’s side, while Princeton will get the women’s.
