Columbia, S.C. — In a game that came down to the final possession, the Albany State men’s basketball team delivered a dramatic 85–84 overtime victory over Allen University on Wednesday night, extending its win streak and showcasing poise under pressure in a hard-fought SIAC battle.

The Golden Rams leaned on their senior leadership and late-game execution, capped by a decisive moment in overtime when Kendale Johnson buried the game-winning three-pointer with just three seconds remaining. Johnson finished with a team-high 23 points, shooting 7-of-11 from the field and knocking down four three-pointers. His confidence and shot-making in the game’s biggest moments proved the difference.

Shakur Poteat played a pivotal role throughout the night, stuffing the stat sheet with 17 points, eight assists, and four steals while going a perfect 10-for-10 from the free-throw line. His steady ball control and ability to attack the rim kept Albany State within striking distance in regulation and helped set the stage for the overtime finish.

Inside, Christian Gary delivered a dominant effort on the glass, recording a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Gary’s physical presence and defensive effort anchored the Golden Rams in the paint, and he also contributed three blocks in 39 minutes of action. Jeremiah Edwardsadded 12 points, providing timely baskets and solid defense in the backcourt.

The Golden Rams received valuable contributions from their depth as well. Malique Johnson chipped in eight points and four assists, while Joe Frazier provided a spark off the bench with eight points on 4-of-6 shooting. Albany State’s ability to get to the free-throw line proved critical, as the Golden Rams converted 26 of 32 attempts, including several late makes that kept the game within reach.

As a team, Albany State outscored Allen 45–33 in the second half to force overtime, then held steady defensively in the extra period before Johnson’s game-winner sealed the victory. The win underscored the Golden Rams’ growth, resilience, and ability to close tight games as conference play intensifies.
