Lately, Kobe Bryant has been getting more disrespected than lemon and orange Starbursts in what can be described as no less than a coordinated smear campaign. While many prominent people in the mainstream media and even former athletes are the drum majors leading this band of basketball blasphemy, it has largely been the independent creators who have used their various platforms ( including this very one) to push back against this latest attempt at a perversion of basketball history. However, there have been some noteworthy individuals, such as Matt Barnes, who have used their voice to refute the non-stop slander of the late great basketball legend.
The most recent and prominent basketball personality to enter this fray was Kendrick Perkins. The former NBA player and current ESPN analyst
“Problem I’ve been having, speaking of the Lakers, one of the all-time greats, arguably the greatest player to ever put on a Lakers uniform. The man got two statues, God rest his soul, Kobe Bean Bryant…”
“The disrespect needs to f—king stop. It needs to stop. Let the man rest in peace. Get a man some space and grace. Every time I look up, there is something about Kobe, and it’s not positive.”
lKudos to Kendrick Perkins for, in this instance, having the gumption to say the truth and call out these disengenuous actors who are working overtime to slander Kobe Bryant all in the despicable effort to further prop up one LeBron James. It is the true fans of basketball who have been charged with the duty of protecting and preserving the rich history of the game and acting as a last line of defense against these fallacious movements that attempt to distort basketball’s past for the gains of a few.
