Amarr Knox knocked down a buzzer-beating shot with only one second left on the clock to lead the Alabama State men’s basketball team past the Saint Francis (PA) Red Flash 70-68 at University of Dayton Arena Tuesday.
The Hornets (20-15) had three players score in double figures, led by Knox, who had 16 points and two steals. Antonio “TJ” Madlock added 11 points and seven rebounds and Cj Hines chipped in as well with 10 points.
Alabama State out-rebounded Saint Francis (PA) 35-33 in Tuesday’s game, led by Madlock’s seven boards. The Hornets also grabbed 12 offensive rebounds and scored 16 second chance points.
Alabama State forced 15 Saint Francis (PA) turnovers while committing only six themselves in Tuesday’s game. The Hornets turned those takeaways into 26 points on the other end of the floor. Micah Simpson’sthree steals led the way for Alabama State.
How It Happened
After falling behind 6-4, Alabama State went on a 6-0 run with 15:28 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Simpson, to take a 10-6 lead. The Hornets then surrendered that lead and entered halftime down 39-34.
Alabama State narrowed its deficit to 60-56 before going on a 6-0 run, finished off by Hines’ three, to seize a 62-60 lead with 4:24 to go in the contest. The Hornets held onto that lead for the rest of the game for the 70-68 win. Alabama State took care of business in the paint, recording 24 of its 36 points in the lane.
