NORFOLK, Va., Nov. 4, 2019 – Norfolk State quarterback Juwan Carter and Florida A&M wide receiver Xavier Smith have been named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Co-Offensive Players of the Week, the conference office announced today. Norfolk State’s Nhyre’ Quinerly is the Defensive Player of the Week and teammate Devyn Coles has been selected as Rookie of the Week. Earning Offensive Lineman of the Week honors is Norfolk State’s Jalen Powell and picking up Specialist of the Week honors is Florida A&M’s Marcus Williams.
Carter (QB, 6-0, 175, Jr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) tallied 340 yards of total offense and accounted for four touchdowns in Norfolk State’s 48-0 win over Morgan State. He completed 16 of 28 passes for 314 yards and three touchdowns, while also carrying the ball seven times for 26 yards and a touchdown. He surpassed the 6,000-yard career passing mark in the Spartans’ Homecoming win.
Smith (WR, 5-10, 165, r-So., Haines City, Fla.) had nine catches for 184 yards and four touchdowns in the Rattlers’ 52-30 win over Delaware State, averaging over 20 yards per reception.
Quinerly (DB, 6-0, 195, r-Sr., Norfolk, Va.) spearheaded a defensive effort that held Morgan State to just 153 yards of total offense and forced five turnovers as the Spartans notched their first shutout win since 2012. He finished the game with nine tackles and an interception that he returned 48 yards for a touchdown.
Coles (DB, 5-11, 175, Fr., Richmond, Va.) intercepted two passes in the first half and finished the game with four tackles, one for a loss as the Spartans upended Morgan State 48-0.
Powell (OL, 6-3, 305, Jr., Temple Hills, Md.) graded out at 95 percent and helped the Spartans roll up 529 yards of offense (215 rushing and 314 passing). He aided a Spartans rusher to go over 100 yards on the ground for the third straight game (Rayquan Smith, 142 yards). Had four pancake blocks and didn’t yield any sacks.
Williams (WR/KR, 5-11, 185, r-Sr., Miami, Fla.) registered 143 kickoff yards, including returning a kickoff 94 yards for a score in the Rattlers’ 52-30 win over Delaware State. He also caught six passes for 69 yards and finished the day with 212 all-purpose yards.

Thomas Bertrand-Hudon (DSU) carried the ball 20 times for 120 yards and two touchdowns for the Hornets against Florida A&M.
Kylil Carter (NCAT) recorded a career-high 267 yards pass, 21 completions and 340 yards of total offense. Finished with 267 yards passing and a touchdown and 73 yards rushing.
Kyin Howard (NCAT) had a key safety in the second quarter that turned the game around for the Aggies.
Noel Ruiz (NCAT) went 2-for-2 on field goals and 2-for-2 on extra points. He broke the school’s single-season record for field goals made with 16.
Latrell Collier (NCCU) scored two touchdowns (39 yards and two yards), finishing the game with 48 all-purpose yards.
Josh Nordone (NSU) was perfect 2-for-2 on field goals, connecting on two 30-yard kicks, and he was 6-of-6 on extra points, for a total of 12 points.
De’Montrez Burroughs (SCSU) had eight catches for 168 yards and a touchdown for the Bulldogs.
