Michael Jordan to join NBA on NBC as special contributor

The NBA will make its long awaited return to NBA coverage next season, unfortunately at the cost of NBA on TNT, who has done an excellent job of covering the Association.

NBC made a major announcement Monday morning that Michael Jordan will be brought into the NBA on NBC fold as a special contributor.

Those of us who are of a certain age remember fondly, the NBA on NBC’s coverage ( how many of you have the theme song playing in your head as you read this?) and there is no player who is more synonymous with that period that HIs Airness himself.

What makes this development so intriguing is that since his playing days concluded in 2003, Jordan has largely been out of the spotlight, making sporadic public appearances, including the rare sit-down interview. Even as the owner of the Charlotte Hornets, Jordan did little to draw attention to himself, with most of his appearances being when he sat courtside.

It is unclear how often or how involved Jordan will be in this “special contributor” role, however it will likely be based around his other obligations, one of which is his co-ownership, along with Denny Hamlin, in 23XI racing.

No matter how often Jordan makes his appearances on the NBA on NBC, what is certain is that the people will tune in whenever he pops in.
