CAA Player of the Week Madison Durr of Monmouth has been selected as one of five Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week honorees by the USBWA (U.S. Basketball Writers Association) on Tuesday.

Durr became the second Monmouth player this season to earn national recognition, joining teammate Abdi Bashir Jr., who garnered the accolade on Nov. 19. The Hawks’ guard is also the third CAA player and second in as many weeks to secure the USBWA’s weekly honor as UNCW’s Bo Montgomery captured the award on Jan. 29.

The Atlanta native turned in 33.5 points per game on 66.7 percent shooting from the floor (16-24 FG) and a perfect 33-for-33 from the charity stripe. The junior guard also registered 4.0 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game.

Durr became the CAA’s first 40-point scorer in over two years after unloading 40 points on 10-of-11 shooting and a perfect 19-for-19 from the line in a 104-97 double-overtime win against Drexel. His perfect night at the charity stripe crushed the program and the CAA records for most made free throws without a miss. Durr also became the 26th player in NCAA Division I history to knock down at least 19 free throws without a miss and set a national game-high this season with his unblemished 19-for-19 outing.

Two days later, Durr followed up with a 27-point performance in Monmouth’s 92-83 win over Delaware, draining all 14 of his attempts from the free-throw line. The Hawks’ guard also earned the Lou Henson National Player of the Week honor by CollegeInsider.com and was named National Player of the Week by the MET Basketball Writers.

Joining Montgomery as National Player of the Week honorees were Massachusetts Rahsool Diggins, Temple’s Jamal Mashburn Jr., Gardner-Webb’s Darryl Simmons and Nebraska’s Brice Williams.
