The Memphis Grizzlies have their highest draft pick since they infamously took Hasheem Thabeet in the 2009 affair ( something that is still a sore spot for Grizzlies fans). With Zion Williamson out of the picture, its has been assumed that the team will take Murray State point guard Ja Morant with their number two pick.
However, where does that leave Mike Conley?
According to The New York Times’ Marc Stein, the Grizzlies “are widely expected to use the No. 2 pick on Murray State’s Ja Morant and trade the ever-reliable Mike Conley.” Additionally, ESPN’s Jonathan Givony reported the ballclub “told interested parties” at the NBA Scouting Combine they intend to select Morant if Zion Williamson goes number one overall to the New Orleans Pelicans.
Conley posted a career-High 21.1 points per game last year, but he is 31 and has two years and $67 million left on the massive five-year, $152 million that he signed back in 2016.
