The North Carolina Central University football team dropped its 2025 home opener Saturday evening in O’Kelly-Riddick Stadium, as New Hampshire came away with a 27-10 win.
The Eagles fell to 1-1 on the season.
Following a scoreless first quarter, New Hampshire got on the board with a 29-yard field goal from Nick Reed. The Wildcats took a 3-0 lead at the 9:17 mark following an 11-play, 49-yard drive.
Just over six minutes later, New Hampshire went up 10-0 after Matt Vezza hit tight end Denin Limouris from four yards out.
The Eagles answered by closing the half on a 13-play, 57-yard drive, culminating in a 35-yard field goal from Kaleb Robison.
Heading into the half, UNH led 10-3.
Vezza got the Wildcats (1-0) on the board twice more in the third quarter: once with an 8-yard run and again with a 65-yard touchdown pass to Peyton Strickland. After that deep strike, UNH led 24-3.
The Eagles answered almost immediately, needing just two plays before quarterback Walker Harris hit Mehki Wall from 65 yards to cut the lead to 24-10 with 36 seconds left in the quarter.
UNH capped the scoring with 5:32 remaining, when Reed hit a 39-yard field goal.
Running back Chris Mosley had another strong game for the Eagles, racking up 106 yards on 19 carries for his second straight 100-yard effort. Walker threw for 172 yards on 13 completions to six different receivers.
Defensive back Tomondrey Braxton led the Eagles defensively with 10 tackles (six solo) and a pass breakup.
The Eagles will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 6, when they travel to Norfolk, Va., to take on Old Dominion at 6 p.m. The game will air live on ESPN+.
