WASHINGTON, D.C. – North Carolina Central University broke open a one-possession game at halftime by exploding for three touchdowns after intermission to cruise to a 28-6 conference victory over Howard University inside Greene Stadium in the nation’s capital on Saturday.
All three NCCU running backs found the end zone, topped by redshirt freshman Latrell “Mookie” Collier with a two-yard touchdown rush and a 39-yard catch-and-run for a score. Junior Isaiah Totten amassed a game-high 90 rushing yards on 17 carries for the visiting Eagles, including a 5-yard touchdown as the only score in the first 30 minutes. Junior Jordan Freeman broke two tackles then raced to the end zone for 37 of his 40 ground yards.
As a team, NCCU (4-5, 3-2 MEAC) posted 199 rushing yards, while limiting the Bison to just 39 yards on the ground. In all, the Eagles recorded 390 yards of total offense, compared to 195 total yards by Howard (1-8, 1-4 MEAC).
The NCCU defense held Howard scoreless until the final minute of the contest. The Eagles registered seven sacks, including 1.5 each by senior Darius Royster and sophomore Jessie Malit, and junior Bryan Mills tallied his fifth interception of the season. Royster, the league leader with 8.0 sacks, and senior Deonta Fair collected a team-high six tackles apiece.
NCCU freshman quarterback Davius Richard completed 18 of 29 passes for 191 yards and a touchdown. He connected with seven different Eagles, with Ryan McDaniel, E.J. Hicks and Tyler Barnes each grabbing four receptions. Daeshawn Stephens added three catches for a team-best 50 yards.

North Carolina A&T State 22, South Carolina State 20
ORANGEBURG, S.C. — Kylil Carter threw for 267 yards and a score as North Carolina A&T beat South Carolina State 22-20 on Saturday.
The Aggies (6-2, 4-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) trailed 10-0 late in the second quarter when Kyin Howard dropped Tyrece Nick in his own end zone for a safety. Jah-Maine Martin followed with a 5-yard touchdown run to close to 10-9 with 1:44 left in the half, and Carter threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to Korey Banks to give the Aggies a 16-10 halftime advantage.
Noel Ruiz kicked two field goals in the third quarter, from 23 and 22 yards, to extend the Aggies’ lead to 22-10. SC State scored twice in the fourth to close to 22-20 with 11:18 left, but the Aggies then held the Bulldogs (5-3, 3-2) to just 26 yards for the remainder of the game.
Corey Fields threw for 284 yards and a touchdown for the Bulldogs. He was intercepted once and sacked three times.

Norfolk State 48, Morgan State 0
NORFOLK, Va. – Behind five interceptions from its defense and 529 offensive yards, Norfolk State pitched a homecoming shutout on Saturday afternoon, romping past Morgan State 48-0 before 20,178 fans at Dick Price Stadium.
Quarterback Juwan Carter passed for 314 yards while accounting for four touchdowns, and Rayquan Smith rushed for 142 yards for NSU (3-6, 2-3 MEAC). Cornerback Devyn Coles had two of the Spartans’ five picks, and senior Nhyre’ Quinerly returned the final interception of the day for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.
The Spartans started quickly behind Carter and their opportunistic defense. On NSU’s first drive of the day, Carter threw an 80-yard touchdown bomb to Da’Kendall James less than three minutes into the game. Brandon Savage and Coles had interceptions on the next two MSU drives, and Josh Nardone kicked a 30-yard field goal following the second turnover for a 10-0 NSU lead halfway through the first quarter.
Another Coles interception late in the first quarter led to a 4-yard touchdown run by Kevin Johnson as NSU held a 17-0 lead after the first quarter.
Spartan linebacker Cephas Harden got into the turnover action on the first play of the second quarter when he intercepted a D.J. Golatt pass. That set up a 25-yard TD pass from Carter to Justin Smith where the wideout broke four tackles en route to the end zone.

Florida A&M 31, Delaware State 3
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Xavier Smith caught four touchdown passes as Florida A&M beat Delaware State 52-30 on Saturday night.
Smith had 184 yards receiving for the Rattlers (8-1, 6-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference), and had three scores from starting quarterback Ryan Stanley and one from backup Rasean McKay. Stanley had 253 yards and four touchdown passes.
The Rattlers struck quickly and repeatedly, scoring 31-unanswered points in the first half beginning with Stanley’s 4-yard TD pass to Azende Rey late in the first quarter. Stanley followed up with three touchdown passes to Smith, from 25, 16 and 59 yards, to take a 28-0 lead. Yahia Aly kicked a 37-yard field goal late in the second quarter. Delaware State’s Jose Romo-Martinez answered with a 19-yarder, making it 31-3 at halftime.
The Hornets (1-8, 0-6) closed to 31-16 late in the third but Davonne Kendrick‘s 6-yard touchdown run stretched the Rattlers’ lead to 38-16. After another Hornets score, Marcus Williams‘s 94-yard kickoff return made it 45-23 to close the quarter.
