BALTIMORE, Md. — Alfonzo Graham ran for a season-high 160 yards and two scores and Morgan State scored four straight touchdowns to earn a 28-21 win over Georgetown in the season finale for both schools Saturday.
Morgan State won two of its final three games to finish 2-9. The Hoyas, who had their season opener with Marist canceled due to a COVID-19 pause during training camp, lost their fourth straight to finish a 2-8.
South Carolina State 31, Norfolk State 21
NORFOK, Va. – Corey Fields, Jr. completed 21 of his 34 passes for 250-yards and three touchdowns to lead South Carolina State to the outright 2021 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Championship with a 31-21 win over Norfolk State Saturday at Dick Price Stadium.
South Carolina State will take on the SWAC champion in the prestigious Cricket Celebration Bowl on Dec. 18th in Atlanta, Ga. at the Mercedes Benz Stadium in a 12 noon (EST) kick-off.
With the win, South Carolina State captures its 18th league title in school history, and eighth under the leadership of head coach Oliver “Buddy” Pough, the winningest head football coach in school history.
The Bulldog offense racked up 422-yards total offense, along with sacking NSU’s Juwan Carter five times on the day.
South Carolina State closes out the regular season with a 6-5 overall, 5-0 MEAC record, while Norfolk State drops to 6-5 overall, 2-3 in the league.
North Carolina Central 34, Delaware State 28
DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central sent its 13 seniors out in thrilling fashion as the host Eagles edged Delaware State University 34-28 in overtime inside O’Kelly-Riddick Stadium on Saturday, providing NCCU with its first three-game win streak and first winning season since 2017.
The Eagles (6-5) also conclude the campaign with a 4-1 conference record to finish as MEAC runner-up.
NCCU sophomore quarterback Davius Richard accounted for three touchdowns, one on the ground and two through the air, including the game-winning 8-yard touchdown toss to sophomore running back Latrell Collier in the extra session.
Delaware State (5-6, 2-3 MEAC) was highlighted by senior wide receiver Trey Gross, who amassed 12 catches for 142 yards and four touchdowns.
