PRINCESS ANNE, Md. — Maryland Eastern Shore held down a strong Lehigh University offense, leaving the Hytche with a 64-60 victory over the visiting Mountain Hawks.
The win marks the second straight for UMES against Lehigh after defeating the Mountain Hawks in their house at Stabler Arena last December.
Both teams struggled to find their footing offensively in the opening half. Both squads shot below 35 percent from the field through 20 minutes, with the score knotted at 27-27.
Da’Shawn Phillip set a new career-high with 17 points in the victory. Phillip set his previous career mark (16) in the December matchup with the Mountain Hawks last season.
In his return to the court for the Hawks, Kevon Voyles provided a key spark off the bench, pouring in 16 points as well as five rebounds and two steals.Box Score | Recap
UMBC 109, Coppin State 82
BALTIMORE, Md. — Coppin State’s got 22 points and seven assists from Sam Sessoms, as well as a career-high 14 points from Christian Sutton in a 109-82 loss at UMBC on Wednesday night at Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena.
The Eagles now stand at 3-6 on the season, while the Retrievers even their record at 4-4 overall.
St. Francis Brooklyn 81, Delaware State 73
BROOKLYN, N.Y. — For the second game in a row, visiting Delaware State cut a huge second half deficit to single digits before coming up short. The Hornets slashed a 20-point shortfall to two points on three occasions late in the game before being held off by St. Francis Brooklyn, which pulled out a 81-73 victory Wednesday evening.
The contest wrapped up a five-game road swing for the Hornets, who now stand at 1-6 this season.
Yale 86, Howard 40
NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Steve Settle III scored a team-high 14 points, but no other player reached double figures as Howard was dealt an 86-40 loss to Yale University in a non-conference men’s game at the John J. Lee Amphitheater on Wednesday.
