Week 8: Basketball Players of the Week
ATLANTA, Ga. (January 25, 2022) – The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) has announced its men’s and women’s basketball Players of the Week.
For women, Ay’Anna Bey (Benedict) was named Player of the Week, while Imani Williams (Miles) earned Newcomer of the Week.
For men, Jaquan Lawrence (LeMoyne-Owen) was named Player of the Week, while Mykayle Carter (Miles) earned Newcomer of the Week, released by the league office on Tuesday.
Women’s Basketball
PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Ay’Anna Bey, Benedict , Forward | Senior | Blackwood, N.J.
Bey helped Benedict go 1-1 on the week. The senior forward scored 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, with 3 steals and 4 assists, in a losing effort against Albany State. She helped Benedict hand Savannah State its first loss of the season by grabbing 10 rebounds and scoring five points despite being hampered with foul trouble. She also added two assists and a blocked shot.
NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK– Imani Williams, Miles, Forward | Freshman | Kankakee, IL
Williams continued her work as one of the most versatile players and strongest defenders in the SIAC this week as the Lady Bears split a pair of contests. She averaged 8.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.0 blocks and 3.0 steals. Her line in the win over Spring Hill (eight points, five rebounds, three assists, three blocks, five steals) shows her ability to be effective all over the court.

Men’s Basketball
PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Jaquan Lawrence, LeMoyne-Owen, Forward | Fifth Year | Chicago, IL
Against Tuskegee, Lawrence led the Magicians to a win last week. Lawrence, a Chicago native, had a triple-double posting 17 points, 14 rebounds, and 10 blocks.
NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK– Mykayle Carter, Miles, Forward | Sophomore | Lauderhill, FL
Carter was hot this week in two Golden Bears wins, averaging 19.5 points on 52 percent shooting from the field (14-for-27) and 43 percent shooting on 3-point attempts (9-for-21). He also averaged 4.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 1.5 assists in the wins over Kentucky State and Spring Hill.
