For many, New Year’s Eve is a time of celebration, for a group of thieves it was a nefarious opportunity.
The quintet of crooks broke into Winston-Salem, North Carolina’s MP Kicks, stealing between $25,000 and $30,000 worth of sneakers and high-end wares.
Surveillance footage captured the thieves pulling up to the store at 3:45 am. A few moments later, a crash is heard, and a cascade of glass showers the camera’s view. Another camera angle from inside the store shows the crooks breaking through the front glass of the store, via a thrown rock. Once inside the thieves moved quickly, albeit clumsily at times, grabbing armfuls of merchandise in both the sales floor and the back room, and escaping with their Ill-gotten gains in less than 3 minutes.
Police arrived on the scene at approximately 3:51 am but the thieves were long gone.
The break-in occurred less than a month into the life of MP Kicks, which opened its door on December 6 and is owned by 22-year-old Peter Youssef. The opening of the store was the coming to fruition of Youssef’s years of hard work and saving.
Despite the robbery, Mr. Youssef remains resolute. “This is a setback not the end,” Youssef said. “Every town has good and bad. I know God has my back.”
He added, “We’re still here and we’re not going anywhere.
Police indicate there have been no arrests made in conjunction with this incident.
