Throughout the lifetime of the Stupid Things People Do For Sneakers, we have covered stories of sneaker-powered ridiculousness from one end of the globe to the other, but even at the most depraved, low-down and head scratchingly foolish, this latest story managed to sail uncharted waters.
Saitama is the most populous sand capital of Saitama Prefecture , Japan. Here in this city of approximately 1.3 million, a man was arrested for the theft of 64 pairs of shoes, but not for the reasons one might think.
Forty-Year-old Makoto Endo was turned over to Saitama Prefecture prosecutors by police over the alleged theft of 64 pairs of sneakers ,worth around 300,000 Yen ($2,684.94 USD), from an elementary school in Oyama City, Tochigi Prefecture and other areas between June 2017 and August 2018.
In September 2018 ,Endo was initially arrested by police on suspicion of theft of shoes. A subsequent search of his Tochigi City, Tochigi residence, police discovered 108 pair of sneakers and other types of footwear.
The Hanyu Police Station quoted Endo as saying, “I like the smell of old shoes, regardless of the gender [of the owner], and wanted to satisfy my sexual desire.”
