Stupid Things People Do For Sneakers: Sneaker collection stolen from a man’s apartment

A San Antonio man had occupied his apartment for two months before he was confronted with one of the worst things that can happen to a sneaker enthusiast.

Deshawn Dixon’s apartment was burgled and his prized sneaker collection was stolen.

“This happening was just a huge blow to my mental health and most importantly my own safety,” said Dixon, who has been a sneaker fan since childhood. “Right before the pandemic hit, I bought a pair of Air Jordan 1 Pine Greens. It was almost like a hit of dopamine. I was like, ‘I got to do this again.’”

The break-in occurred on June 24.

Deshawn said he returned to his apartment at approximately 8 p.m. and found his front door open. He rushed into his apartment and made his way to the bedroom, which was in disarray, with clothes strewn all over the floor, and it was then he realized his sneakers we gone.

Surveillance footage shows the suspect, who wore a mask, moving in and out of the camera’s frame. Off camera, multiple loud bangs are heard, which Deshawn thinks are the suspect breaching the entrance to his domicile.

The suspect was seen on film carrying the comforter from Dixon’s bed with sneaker boxes inside. The thief, who was initially spotted on surveillance footage at 12:30 pm after stealing Deshawn’s kicks, returned three hours later and stole his gaming consoles, passport, and the title to his car.

“It just sucks that I have to start over now after five years,” he said. “But I’m going to keep on collecting shoes because it’s just what I love to do.”

Dixon’s collection of 21 pairs is valued between $5,000 and $6,000.
