Police in York City, PA arrested a teen who was one-half of a larcenous duo.
Eighteen-year-old Da’Nas Zytier Edwards was arrested and charged with robbery-threat of immediate serious bodily injury, conspiracy to commit robbery- threat of immediate serious bodily injury, firearms not to be carried without a license, and possession of a weapon on school property.
York City officers responded to a robbery call at the 600 block of North Beaver Street. Upon arrival, a boy told officers that he and two other youngsters were leaving Williams Park, walking on North Pershing Avenue when two masked males ran up on them, according to an affidavit of probable cause.
One of the robbers, who was wearing a black Nike ski mask, brandished a firearm, cocked the weapon by pulling the slide back and pointed it at the victim. The affidavit stated the gun-toting robber demanded the victim’s white and black Air Jordan 4s. The victim was patted down and also relieved of his iPhone.
The second suspect, who was wearing a surgical face mask, demanded and took the victim’s Nike crossbody bag, which contained a pair of AirPods. After obtaining their ill-gotten bounty, the pair of thieves escaped in the direction of the park.
Surveillance footage showed the suspects running in the victim’s direction and then carrying the victim’s belongings as they walked back toward a pavilion in Williams Park. The robbing duo was also seen unmasked in a store purchasing items. Additional video showed the second suspect entering a house located in the 500 block of North Pershing Avenue. A warrant was obtained for the house after it was ascertained that Edwards lived there.
Edwards left the residence before police arrived to execute the warrant; hr was located and detained soon thereafter. In addition to discovering a 40-calibre handgun on Edwards’ person, which was found in a grass lot; while searching the aforementioned residence, investigators found the clothing he allegedly wore during the robbery.
During subsequent questioning, Edwards placed himself at the scene of the robbery and said he was carrying the victim’s bag on the way to the pavilion.
