Aided greatly by rampant turnovers and atrocious shooting, the No. 17 Vanderbilt Commodores jumped on the Lady Tigers early, making the competitive portion of the Sunday matchup fleeting at best, pounding TSU 99-43.
Tennessee State stumbled out of the gate, in a first quarter in which they committed more turnovers (15), than points scored (6). The Lady Tigers shot just 14.3% (1-7) from the field and 0-3 from downtown; Vanderbilt had no such offensive challenges connecting 60.9% (14-23) from the floor. By the time the game headed into the second quarter, the Commodores were already up 31-6.
The Lday Tigers’ lot did not improve in the second quarter. They scored just 4 points in the frame on 2-16 (12.5%) and found themselves in a 56-10 canyon when halftime mercifully arrived.
Vanderbilt built their lead in the third quarter, taking an 81-27 lead into the fourth quarter, on their way to a decisive 99-43 win.
Aaniya Webb was the only Lady Tiger to shoot 26.8% for the game, scoring 16 points. Mikayla Blakes led the Commodores with 24 points, Aubrey Galvan added 16 points, Sacha Washington chipped in 13 and Justine Pissot chipped in 12 points.
