NASHVILLE — Tennessee State earned its second overall trip to the NCAA Volleyball Tournament and first since the 2007 season and will travel to Columbus, Ohio, to play at 3rd-seeded Ohio State on Friday, Dec. 2 in a first-round match at 7:30 PM ET / 6:30 PM CT.
Friday’s contest will be played at the Covelli Center on the campus of Ohio State. In the other pod matchup, 6th-seeded Southern California meets High Point with the winners of both first-round matchups playing on Saturday for the right to advance to the Texas Regional in Austin. The Longhorns are the overall top-seed in the NCAA Tournament.
This will be the first time TSU will be playing Ohio State in program history.
In their first appearance to the NCAA Tournament, the Tigers fell in straight sets to the 11th-seeded University of Hawai’i 3-0 in Louisville.
TSU enters the tournament after a Cinderella-like season after being picked last in the Ohio Valley Conference Preseason Poll. The Tigers finished sixth in the OVC and ran the table with five-set wins over Morehead State, Lindenwood and SEMO at the OVC Championship.
Graduate student Gina Rivera-Ortiz was named OVC Tournament MVP after leading the team with 23 digs in the championship win over SEMO.
