Early Monday morning, Texas men’s basketball head coach Chris Beard was arrested and charged with assault on a family member.
Police responded to a “disturbance-urgent” call at a 2:07 a.m Monday morning. According to the Travis County Sherriff’s Office website, Beard was booked at 4:18 am.
A spokesperson for the Austin police told the Austin American-Statesman that Beard strangled someone at a home in Tarrytown, an Austin neighborhood.
Beard is 29-13 in his two campaigns in Austin, including 7-1 this season.
A statement from a University of Texas spokesperson says “the University is aware of the situation regarding Chris Beard. We are continuing to gather information and monitoring the legal process.”
