The quest for the 2026 CAA Tournament crown begins on March 7

RICHMOND, Va. (March 6, 2026) – The quest for 13 teams to be “Crowned in the Capital” starts on Fridayas the 2026 Air Force CAA Men’s Basketball Tournament opens play with No. 12 North Carolina A&T (11-18, 4-14) facing No. 13 Northeastern (6-23, 2-16) at 2 p.m. at CareFirst Arena in Washington, D.C. The five-day tournament will run its course from March 6-10.

Following the inaugural CAA Tournament matchup between the Blue Hens and Seawolves, a season-finale rematch is in store between No. 11 Hofstra (14-17, 6-12) and No. 14 North Carolina A&T (7-24, 3-15) at 4:30 p.m. The Pride earned a 70-49 win over the Aggies to claim its seeding in the postseason slate.

The winner of Friday’s contest will join the remaining seven teams who secured a spot in Saturday’s Second Round. The afternoon of March 7 will open with No. 8 Stony Brook (17-14, 9-9) taking on No. 9 Campbell (14-17, 8-10) at 12 p.m. The two teams met previously on Jan. 29 as the Seawolves used 19-point efforts from Erik Pratt and Andrej Shoshkikj to secure an 81-69 victory on the road.

No. 5 Drexel (16-15, 10-8) will await the winner of the N.C. A&T/Northeastern game to follow at 2:30 p.m.The Dragons’ Head Coach Zach Spiker was recently named a finalist for CollegeInsider.com’s Skip Prosser Man of the Year award, given annually to a Division I coach who achieves success on the basketball court and displays moral integrity on and off it as well. The Dragons, who were picked 10th in the league’s preseason poll, finished fifth in the CAA standings under Spiker’s guidance.

Saturday’s evening session will begin with a Battle of the DMV as No. 7 Towson (17-14, 9-9) faces No. 10 Hampton (13-18, 7-11) at 6 p.m. The Pirates stunned the Tigers with a 63-62 win on New Year’s Eve, only for Towson to come back with an 82-50 victory a month later.

No. 6 William & Mary (19-11, 10-8) and No. 11 Elon (14-17, 6-12) will close out the Second Round with an 8:30 p.m. tilt. The Phoenix picked up a pair of three-point victories over the Tribe this season, starting with a 79-76 victory on Jan. 29, followed by an 81-78 thriller capped off by a game-winning triple from Bryson Cokley with under two seconds remaining.

Fresh off its 10th CAA regular season title and fifth straight 20-win season, top-seeded UNCW (26-5, 15-3) will look to become the second team in the last four seasons to capture back-to-back league crowns when it open Sunday’s Quarterfinal competition at noon. The Seahawks rode three of the league’s longest winning streaks this season, logging nine straight victories during non-conference play (Nov. 15-Dec. 13), before notching a pair of six-game streaks during league play (Dec. 29-Jan. 17 / Feb. 9-26). UNCW Head Coach Takayo Siddle was also named a finalist for the Ben Jobe Award, an honor presented annually to the top minority head coach in Division I college basketball.

Following its best finish since joining the CAA, No. 4 Monmouth (17-14, 11-7) will look to continue its success in the CAA Championship event when it opens play on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Jason Rivera-Torres and Kavion McClain led the Hawks to key wins down the stretch help secure the coveted double-bye. Monmouth will look to secure its first CAA men’s basketball championship this weekend.

No. 2 Charleston (21-10, 14-4) will open the nightcap on Sunday with a 6 p.m. tip. The Cougars picked up 14 wins in league action, with none bigger than heading into Wilmington and snatching a 79-76 season-finale win over the conference’s regular season champions, UNCW. Charleston will turn to their two 7-foot centers Chol Machot and Christian Reeves and shifty guard Jlynn Counter to help secure the program’s third title in the last four seasons.

No. 3 Hofstra (21-10, 12-6) will close out Sunday’s slate in the 8:30 p.m. slot. With one of the best backcourt tandems in Cruz Davis and Preston Edmead, the Pride will look to secure its second CAA championship, with its last coming in 2020. Head Coach Speedy Claxton also found himself in contention for the Ben Jobe Award, alongside UNCW’s Siddle, after taking his team from being picked eighth in the preseason poll and rising to third in the CAA with 12 conference wins.

The semifinals will be played Monday, March 9, at 6and 8:30 p.m., with the CAA Championship game tipping off Tuesday, March 10, at 7 p.m.
