NASHVILLE – Tennessee State track and field freshman Leilany Laureano put together two good showings in her first two meets of the season to earn Ohio Valley Conference Female Freshman Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week.
Laureano collected a third-place finish out of 13 performers in the shotput in her first career meet at the Edmonds-Wilt Invitation that was hosted by Purdue. The Florida native had a long toss of 12.80.
This past Saturday Laureano was able to earn the first first-place finish of her career at home in the Ed Temple Classic. Laureano finished with a mark of 13.80m in the shot put event out of seven girls to take home first.
The Tigers will be back in action on Martin Luther King Day as they are set to head to Louisville, Ky., to compete in the Louisville Urban KSU HBCU Indoor Classic, hosted by Kentucky State.
