The Albany State University Golden Rams put on a commanding performance, cruising to an 80-48 victory over Kentucky State University in SIAC men’s basketball action on Saturday at the William Exum HPER Center. The win improves the Golden Rams to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in conference play, while the Thorobreds fall to 4-4 overall and 2-3 in the SIAC.
Albany State wasted no time establishing control, jumping out to a 38-26 lead by halftime. The Golden Rams turned up the intensity in the second half, outscoring the Thorobreds 42-22, fueled by efficient shooting and a stifling defense.
Shakur Poteat led the Golden Rams with a game-high 24 points, shooting 8-of-12 from the field and 4-of-7 from beyond the arc. He also added six rebounds and hit 4-of-6 free throws. Jabari Williamsdelivered a perfect shooting performance, going 6-for-6 from the floor for 12 points while grabbing five rebounds and contributing strong defense. Blaise Wallace was a force on the boards, recording a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while also chipping in three assists.
Albany State shot an impressive 60.4% from the field and 38.9% from three-point range, compared to Kentucky State’s 21.3% shooting and 9.5% from beyond the arc. Defensively, the Golden Rams locked down the Thorobreds, forcing 19 turnovers and holding them to just 13 made field goals on 61 attempts.

The Golden Rams will look to build on this momentum as they travel to Wilberforce, OH, to face Central State University on Monday, December 9. Tip-off is scheduled to follow the women’s game, which begins at 5:30 PM CT.
