Monmouth’s Abdi Bashir Jr. and Stony Brook’s Collin O’Connor wrapped up the 2024-25 CAA men’s basketball regular season with the final Player and Rookie of the Week honors on Monday.
CAA Player of the Week
Abdi Bashir Jr., Monmouth
Sophomore | Guard | Omaha, Neb.
Bashir shined from the 3-point line last week, seeing 19 of his 24 makes in three games come from distance, including back-to-back contests with eight triples en route to two wins for Monmouth. The Hawks’ sharpshooting guard averaged 24.7 points on a 47.5 percent shooting clip from deep. The Omaha, Neb., native had 30 points in a win over Northeastern, going 8-of-16 from deep and setting the program record for most treys in a season. The sophomore followed that with eight more 3-pointers and 29 points in a 79-76 victory over Elon. Bashir is just four threes from tying the CAA record for most made treys with his Division I-leading 121 makes from behind the arc this season. He secured his second Player of the Week honor.
CAA Rookie of the Week
Collin O’Connor, Stony Brook
Freshman | Guard | Dayton, Ohio
O’Connor averaged 10.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists in a two-win week for Stony Brook. The freshman guard scored 17 points in a 59-56 victory over Hofstra in the Battle of Long Island. Despite not scoring against Elon, the Ohio product dished out four assists and blocked what would have been the game-tying shot in the final seconds of the Seawolves’ 71-66 win over Elon. O’Connor earned his fourth Rookie of the Week honor.
