Second half comeback pushes Kentucky State past Edward Waters

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Kentucky State women’s basketball held Edward Waters to single digits in the third quarter to spark a second-half rally and earn a 58–54 win Monday.
 
Brittany Campbell led Kentucky State with 12 points, while Alycia Triplett added 10 as the only two Thorobreds to reach double figures.
 
The Thorobreds controlled the boards with a 41–34 rebounding advantage, paced by Shiyah Forte’s nine rebounds. The Thorobreds also recorded five blocks, including two from Amyah Adair-Mars.
 
Although Kentucky State put together a seven-point run in the first quarter, Edward Waters closed with three straight points to take an 11–10 lead after the opening period.
 
The Tigers capitalized on second-chance opportunities in the second quarter, scoring 12 points and converting six points off four Kentucky State turnovers to build a 30–24 halftime advantage.
 
Kentucky State responded with a strong defensive effort in a low-scoring third quarter, holding Edward Waters to just eight points to pull within 38–37.
 
The Thorobreds sealed the win at the line and inside, going 5-of-7 on free throws and knocking down seven field goals in the fourth quarter to complete the 58–54 comeback.
