In something out of a movie, a group of masked robbers cut a hole in the roof of a Florida mall to steal hundreds of pairs of sneakers.
The Martin County Sheriff’s Office said the robbery took place in the storage area of the Champ’s Sports located in Jensen Beach’s Treasure Coast Mall between midnight and 8 a.m. on October 21.

“These are organized criminals that are probably traveling criminals that made their way to Martin County, got off with a sizable amount of product,” said Sheriff John Budensiek. “They didn’t do that with a handsaw. They used electric tools — probably a grinder or saw — and somehow worked for hours without being detected.”
Martin County Sheriff’s Office had this to say, in part, via a Facebook post regarding the brazen heist:
MCSO INVESTIGATING SKY-HIGH SNEAKER THIEVES AFTER ELABORATE ROOFTOP HEIST
Not quite the Crown Jewels — but it’s clear these sneaker thieves put the same
time and effort into their crime. Now it’s our detectives’ turn to track them down.
According to the sheriff’s office, the thieves’ ill-gotten gains are estimated to be between $40,000 and $50,000. The cost is ten grand to repair the roof.
