Amaree Brown Commits to Alabama State Out of Transfer Portal

Amaree Brown is taking his talents to the Alabama State Hornets, giving the program a notable addition from the transfer portal.

The 6-foot-5, 210-pound wing announced his commitment after departing Southern Indiana, where he flashed potential as a versatile perimeter scorer. Brown’s combination of size, athleticism, and offensive ability makes him an intriguing piece for Alabama State as they look to build momentum heading into the upcoming season.

Brown began his collegiate career at Oklahoma Panhandle State University , where he appeared in 53 games ,46 starts, for the Aggies, recording per game averages of 14.6 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.0 assists.

After his sophomore season in which he averaged 17.8 points per game to go along with 3.9 rebounds and 2.2 assists, Brown transferred to the University of Southern Indiana.

During his time at Southern Indiana, Brown demonstrated the ability to score at multiple levels, contributing as both a slasher and perimeter threat. In limited action, appearing in just 16 games with 12 starts, Brown immediately carved out a role , averaging 13.8 points per game and was named OVC newcomer of the week, for strong performances against Western and Eastern Illinois on February 19 and 21, respectively.

For Alabama State, this addition addresses a key need on the wing. Brown brings not only scoring punch but also length and physicality—traits that are essential in the physical, guard-driven style of play often seen in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

His arrival could position him as an immediate contributor, with the potential to grow into a featured role. If Brown can translate his scoring ability consistently at the SWAC level, he may quickly become one of the more impactful transfers in the conference.

As roster construction continues across HBCU basketball, this move signals Alabama State’s intent to be a player in the Southwestern Athletic Conference in the portal era.
