The Golden State Warriors are expected to keep one of the pillars of their championship dynasty in place.
According to reports from Joe Vardon and David Aldridge of The Athletic, the Warriors are expected to re-sign veteran forward Draymond Green to a deal worth nearly $28 million after their pursuit of LeBron James came up short.
Green previously declined his player option in an effort to give Golden State additional financial flexibility during its unsuccessful attempt to land James in free agency. With James ultimately signing with the Philadelphia 76ers, the Warriors have shifted their focus toward retaining their longtime defensive leader.
A four-time NBA champion and former Defensive Player of the Year, Green remains one of the league’s premier defenders and emotional leaders. Re-signing him preserves the Warriors’ championship core alongside Stephen Curry as the franchise looks to rebound from a disappointing 2025-26 campaign.
With Green expected to return, Golden State can now focus on filling out the remainder of its roster as it aims to return to playoff contention in the Western Conference.
