A tragic family incident involving Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy unfolded Sunday night after his 27-year-old son, Elijah Zion Bieniemy, was arrested in connection with the shooting of his mother, Mia Bieniemy, at the family’s home in Ashburn, Virginia.
According to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a reported shooting and found 57-year-old Mia Bieniemy suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was transported to a local hospital, where authorities said she was in stable condition on Monday. (
Elijah Bieniemy was taken into custody and charged with:
- Malicious wounding
- Use of a firearm in the commission of a felony
- Discharging a firearm inside a dwelling
He is currently being held without bond as the investigation remains ongoing.
Eric Bieniemy, who recently returned to Kansas City as the Chiefs’ offensive coordinator, was absent from Monday’s training camp activities as he remained with his family. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid expressed his support following the incident.
“Our hearts go out to Eric Bieniemy and his family… Mia is stable, which is a plus,” Reid told reporters.
No motive has been released, and authorities have not disclosed additional details as the case continues to be investigated.
