Former Tuskegee Head Coach Aaron James Joins Miles College as Offensive Analyst

Aaron James is returning to familiar territory. The former Tuskegee University head football coach has joined Miles College as an offensive assistant and analyst, according to HBCU Premier Sports.

James returns to a program where he previously spent nine seasons as a member of the Golden Bears’ coaching staff, helping build one of the SIAC’s successful teams during his tenure. His previous responsibilities at Miles included coaching wide receivers and quarterbacks, serving as recruiting coordinator, and working as offensive coordinator.

James’ return to Miles follows his departure from Tuskegee, where he was relieved of his head coaching duties on Oct. 4, 2026, after the Golden Tigers opened the season 2-3. He finished his head coaching tenure with a 14-13 overall record, including an 11-7 mark in SIAC play.

A Familiar Face in the Golden Bears’ Program

James brings extensive experience in HBCU football to Miles, having previously coached at Lane College, Clark Atlanta University and Bethune-Cookman University.

During his first stint at Miles, he was part of SIAC championship teams in 2011, 2015 and 2018, as well as the Golden Bears’ 2012 squad that reached the NCAA Division II playoffs for the first time in program history.

Before becoming Tuskegee’s 18th head football coach in January 2023, James served as the Golden Tigers’ offensive coordinator in 2022. He is also a former Tuskegee quarterback who posted a 42-5 record as a starter from 1998 to 2001 and helped lead the program to an undefeated 12-0 season and an HBCU national championship in 2000.

His return gives Miles another experienced football mind with established ties to the program and the SIAC.
