Florida A&M has officially found its leader under center for the start of the 2026 season.
The Rattlers announced Monday that transfer quarterback Isaiah Knowles will open the season as the team’s starting quarterback for its Week 0 matchup, ending any speculation surrounding the position heading into the season opener.
Knowles arrives in Tallahassee after an outstanding career at Albany State, where he established himself as one of the most accomplished quarterbacks in Division II and HBCU football. During his time with the Golden Rams, he earned SIAC Offensive Player of the Year honors twice, becoming one of the conference’s most dynamic offensive players.
The veteran signal-caller transferred to Florida A&M with high expectations and has now earned the opportunity to lead the Rattlers into the 2026 campaign.
A proven playmaker
Knowles’ success at Albany State made him one of the most coveted HBCU transfer quarterbacks entering the offseason. His ability to make plays through the air while extending drives with his legs helped power the Golden Rams’ offense and established him as one of the SIAC’s premier players.
Career statistics at Albany State:
● Passing: 371-583, 4,726 yards, 50 touchdowns , 14 interceptions
● Rushing: 180 carries , 390 yards , and 11 touchdowns
● Honors: Two-time SIAC Offensive Player of the Year
Those numbers, combined with his experience in high-pressure conference games, provide Florida A&M with an experienced quarterback capable of leading one of the SWAC’s most talented rosters.
Expectations are high
Naming Knowles the starter provides clarity at football’s most important position as the Rattlers prepare for Week 0. While he’ll face the challenge of adjusting to a new conference, his track record suggests he’ll be ready for the opportunity.
Florida A&M enters the season with aspirations of competing for a SWAC championship, and much of that success will hinge on how quickly Knowles can establish chemistry with his new teammates and command the offense.
