USC linebacker Desman Stephens II has been suspended for one game following his ejection during Saturday’s 41-27 loss to Oregon.
Stephens was ejected for targeting after delivering a late hit to Ducks quarterback Dante Moore during the second quarter.
Moore was attempting to slide when Stephens made contact with his head. Moore remained on the field while receiving medical attention before eventually being taken away on a stretcher and transported by ambulance.
Stephens’ actions following the hit also drew significant attention. He celebrated after the play while Moore was being attended to, and the incident nearly sparked a confrontation between the two teams.
USC head coach Lincoln Riley called Stephens’ conduct unacceptable.
“Desman’s actions in last night’s game are unacceptable and are not reflective of USC Football nor of his personal character.”
Stephens also issued an apology, acknowledging that his reaction was inappropriate and saying he takes full responsibility for his actions.

🏈 THE BIGGER STORY
The suspension comes one day after the controversial play became one of the biggest talking points surrounding USC’s loss.
Stephens’ ejection itself was a significant penalty, but his reaction while Moore was receiving medical attention generated additional criticism and prompted USC to issue a statement addressing his conduct.
USC has now made clear that Stephens will not play against Washington.
Oregon coach Dan Lanning called the hit “disgusting,” while USC’s official statement emphasized that Stephens understands his mistake and will learn from it.
Dante Moore’s health remains the most important part of this story. Oregon has not publicly provided a full medical update through the sources reviewed here.
Sneaker Shop Talk will continue to follow the latest updates on Moore and any additional discipline involving Stephens.
