Alabama A&M University volleyball senior outside hitter Saldy Amparo-Smith earned 2024 Preseason Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) honors, the conference announced Tuesday.
The Santo Domingo, DR native earned the 2023 SWAC Newcomer of the Year honor and received All-SWAC Second team recognition. She played 30 matches, in which she started in 27 of them. Amparo-Smith led the team with 244 kills, including a season-high 34 kills against Florida A&M.
Defensively, she tallied 160 digs and 33 total blocks. On the other side of the court, Amparo-Smith recorded 26 service aces and 22 assists. She finished the season with 288.5 points.
The Alabama A&M University volleyball team was also predicted to finish in the top-5 of the conference, behind Jackson State, Florida A&M, Alabama State and Prairie View A&M.
The Bulldogs will take to the court this Friday for their first exhibition of the season versus Lane College in Elmore Gymnasium. First serve is set for 7:30 p.m. with rally towels for the first 50 students.
