Albany, Ga. — In a hard-fought NCAA Division II Quarterfinal matchup, the Albany State Golden Rams left everything on the field, showcasing heart, resilience, and championship pride from the opening whistle to the final snap. Though the season came to a close in today’s loss, the Golden Rams continued to affirm why this 2025 campaign will be remembered as one of the greatest in program history.
Impressive performances across all phases of the game supported Albany State’s effort. Freshman quarterback Xavier Irizarry made his debut start, leading the offense and showcasing his ability to make efficient decisions and remain composed under pressure. He was backed by strong contributions from Tiant Wyche and the offensive line, who fought hard in the trenches throughout the afternoon.
On the defensive side, the Golden Rams showed toughness and grit, qualities that defined their historic run. Aydin Henningham, Luke Rose, and Andrew Ruffin each turned in strong defensive outings, flying to the football and keeping momentum within reach. Their effort set the tone for a unit that refused to break, even against one of the nation’s top postseason offenses.
Special teams also delivered steady production, including key punts, kick coverage, and directional placement that repeatedly flipped field position. The Golden Rams’ ability to compete in all three phases reflected the complete identity they built throughout the season: disciplined, determined, and always up for the next challenge.
Despite the outcome of today’s game, the Golden Rams have secured a spot in the record books. The 2025 team concludes the season with a remarkable record of 12-2, marking the most successful season in the history of the program under head coach Quinn Gray. They achieved new milestones, energized the community, and advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals for only the fourth time ever.
From a dominant regular season to championship triumphs and unforgettable postseason victories, the Golden Rams proved that Albany State belongs on the national stage. The legacy of this team will fuel the program’s future and inspire the next generation of Golden Rams to continue the journey they’ve begun.
As the season closes, one thing is certain: Albany State Football made history, and the best is still ahead.
