BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Destiny Brown recorded her seventh double-double of the season as Alcorn State University women’s basketball advanced to the semi-final round of the Southwestern Athletic Conference women’s basketball tournament on Thursday morning. The Lady Braves went toe-to-toe with Southern University and came out with a 59-52 victory.
Brown posted 18 points and 11 rebounds in the win while also recording three assists, one steal, and a block. She was followed by Nia McCalphia and Zy’Nyia White with 14 points each. White also tallied four rebounds. Nakia Cheatham contributed eight rebounds.
The team went 37.8 percent from the field and 91.3 percent from the line.
Southern was led by Taylor Williams with 14 points, five rebounds, and three steals. Chloe Fleming recorded 13 points and six rebounds. Raven White contributed six rebounds while Cayla Obillo tallied two assists.
The Lady Jaguars were 32.1 percent from the field and 58.3 percent from the free throw line.
Alcorn will play No. 2 seed Grambling State University in a semi-final game on Friday, March 15. Tip off is set for 11 a.m.
