Alcorn could be looking at former Stephen F. Austin baseball coach

According to Michael Coker of, Alcorn State is considering hiring former Stephen F. Austin coach Johnny Cardenas as its head baseball coach to replace Reggie Williams, who was shown the door after three seasons.

After 16 seasons at the helm of the Stephen F. Austin baseball program, Coach Cardenas announced his retirement, which is to take effect on 31 July 2024. In his time leading Lumberjacks baseball, he recorded three 30+ win seasons. He coached two All-Americans, Bryson Myles (2011) and Hunter Dozier, (2013), 13 All-Southland Conference selections. In his time at SFA as both an assistant and head coach, Cardenas coached 13 Major League Baseball draft picks and was named the Southland Conference’s Coach of the Year in 2010.

It is not yet known if or when this hiring may take place.
