Benedict jumped on Johnson C. Smith early and never let the Golden Bulls into the game, scoring three quick touchdowns en route to a 42-14 victory this Saturday.
After completing a 45-yard pass from quarterback Dominique Harris to Delon Freeman on their first offensive play, it would only take them three more plays to fins the end zone for the first time- a 6-yard touchdown pass to Jemine Yesin. The extra point made the score 7-0.
Johnson C. Smith fumbled the play after the ensuing kickoff and Benedict recovered. Harris would toss his second touchdown pass of the game- a 31-yard completion to Trini Charlton and the less than five minutes into the game the Tigers found themselves up 14-0.
Benedict would notch their third touchdown of the period when Charlton would reach the end zone again- this time coming on a 7-yard run. The extra point gave the Tigers a 21-0 lead.
The Tigers would score again following a nine-play, 88-yard drive that ended with Harris and Yesin connecting for their second touchdown on the day, this one from 14 yards out. The PAT would give the Tigers a commanding 28-0 lead that they took into halftime.
Benedict received the second half kickoff and only needed 5 plays to score their fifth touchdown of the day- a 48-yard pitch-and-catch from Harris to Wayne Brown to put the Tigers up 35-0.
Johnson C. Smith would finally get on the board with an 11-play, 73 yard drive that would be capped off with a one-yard run from Jachin Watkins; the extra point from Brandon Howard made the score 35-7.
Benedict would close out the third quarter,and their own, with a 5-play, 75-yard drive that ended with a 34-yard run from Phillip Brown.
JCSU would add a second touchdown- a 20-yard pass with only 22 seconds remaining in the game, bringing the score to 42-14.
Benedict returns to action next week, heading to Fayetteville, North Carolina to take on Fayetteville State. Kickoff is 4 p.m. EST. Johnson C. Smith returns home to host Virginia Union next week. Kickoff is also 4 p.m. EST.
